Motherwell Miners Welfare Bowling Club

Our third league match of the Burgh League took place at a sunny, but chilly Beltane BC.  We managed to secure 6 points on the night to boost our hopes of winning the title and promotion.  The winning rinks on the night were:

Ian Allan, Robert Gilfillan, Kenny McFarlane Jnr, Stuart Thomson

Ian Gillespie, Bob Walker, Jim McNaught, David Anderson Snr

Next Burgh League match: Wednesday 21st May - Newmains (h) 6.30pm

Unfortunately on Sunday 11th May, Mark Renwick lost his 2nd round match against his opponent from Blantyre BC at Orbiston BC.  He was lying the match on his opponent’s last bowl but a fantastic final bowl saw his opponent win 21-19!  Unlucky Mark, but best of luck in the Scottish singles!!!

Our second league match of the Burgh League took place at sun-drenched Orbiston BC.  We only managed to secure 2 points on the night, but it was a treat to play in such good weather and on a fine green.  The winning rink on the night was:

For season 2008, we’ve decided to trial an electronic newsletter that will keep you fully up-to-date with Motherwell Miners Bowling Club. This newsletter will be sent via e-mail to your inbox on a regular basis (probably monthly) and shall include news items, results, social/bowling events, monthly calendar, general information etc.

In addition, we would like to point out that our “Calendar” option on the right hand side menu will be kept up-to-date throughout the season and this provides a valuable source for your diary!!!

Jim Thomson will be running his Saturday Night Mini-League again this season with the first match on Saturday 10th May 2008 at 6.30pm.  This is a fun evening and everyone (gents, ladies, juniors, visitors) are welcome to participate.  Furthermore, there will be free tea/coffee and biscuits when the matches end at 8pm.

Our club champion Mark Renwick defeated his opponent from Lesmahagow (Jim Meikle) 21-13 on Sunday evening at Strathaven BC.  Mark played extremely well even accounting for a leg injury (ask Mark for details although I believe it was football related), which forced him to hobble up and down the green!  His 2nd round match will be against Blantyre BC at Orbiston on Sunday 11th May starting at 6.30pm.  Please try to get along and give him your full support.

Our first league game in Division 2 of the Burgh league against Motherwell BC took place on Tuesday 29th April at our green.  Luckily the weather stayed dry, even after the thunder & lightning earlier in the day!  The final result was 4 points each.  Our two winning rinks were:

Mark Renwick, Derek Houston, Scott Johnston, Paul Martin

Next Burgh League match:   Tuesday 6th May - Orbiston (a) 6.30pm

Our club champion Mark Renwick defeated his opponent from Lanark Thistle 21-9 in the preliminary round of the “Champion of Champions” at Hamilton Caledonian BC on Sunday 27th April.  Mark will now play the champion of Lesmahagow BC in the 1st round at Strathaven BC on Sunday 4th May at 6.30pm.  Please try to get along and give Mark good support.

Please note that due to a lack of interest, the Club Pairs scheduled for Sunday 4th May has been postponed and will be rescheduled for later in the season.

Opening Day 2008 Photos

The opening of the greens for season 2008 takes place on Saturday 19th April at 2.00pm. Tickets are now available from the committee, priced at £9 per head. This includes the game, meal (5pm) and social evening.

If you would like tickets either contact any member of the committee or use the “Contact” facility on this website. Please note final numbers must be known by Wednesday 16th April.
