The bowling club gents AGM was held on Wednesday 18th February 2009. Approximately 50-60 members were in attendance for a meeting that lasted 2 hours. A quick summary of the main issues raised on the night:
1. Ian Allan was installed as President for season 2009 and he will be ably assisted by his Vice-President Jim Thomson.
2. The Selection Committee for season 2009 will consist of Joe Aitken (convenor), Mark McFarlane and Kevin Moore.
3. Tom Lindsay stood down from his position as treasurer/committee after 14 years. We would like to thank Tom for all his hard work especially over the last few years as treasurer. Tommy Johnstone will replace Tom Lindsay as treasurer.
4. The bowling club members fees will all be raised by £5 for season 2009.
5. A change to the challenge system was passed which allows 1 challenge to be issued at weekends (Saturday/Sunday) after 2pm. For full details, please check the noticeboards and/or speak to a member of the gents committee.
6. Opening Day is on Saturday 18th April 2009 at 2pm.
Could all bowling club members please note that their social club fees have to be paid as soon as possible. I think the due date is end of February 2009.
I logged onto the website today to check out what has been happening in and around the club and noticed under the “News” link on the main menu that the current website incarnation will be 4 years old tommorow, the first post being made on the 16th February 2005! I think it’s a a great achievment to have kept the website online and up-to-date throughout this period and would like to thank Kenny for his ongoing contributions to the website over this time. Hopefully those visiting find the website a useful resource; if so let us know and if not then let us know why not.
Here’s to another 4 years!

The creator of the Motherwell Miners website, the man who put all this into place, Graeme Russell, is participating in a Bike-a-thon from London to Brighton, 56 miles, on Sunday 17th June (the route should take Graeme around 4.5 hours to complete!). Graeme has been living in London for approximately 1 year as part of his degree course, however, will return to Scotland in September to continue his studies. Before then, he is participating in this challenge in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation in their fight to beat heart disease. If you wish to donate money to Graeme’s cause, or to check how his fundraising is progressing, please go to the following webpage:
