Motherwell Miners Welfare Bowling Club

Unfortunately on Sunday 28th August 2005, our top ten team lost in the semi-final to Raploch at Udston. It was a very tight match and came down to the last bowl when it could have went either way. The singles (S.Leary) lost 21-17, the pairs (M.Renwick, D.Anderson (2)) won 31-3, the triples (D.Houston, W.Liddell, K.Hird) lost 11-9 and the rink (I.Allan, D.Collins, I.Gillespie, I.Milne) lost 19-18. Congratulations to all the guys for getting to the semi-final and better luck next year. Incidentally, the final is between Raploch and Caldercraig.

Friday night was the final league Lanarkshire League match of the season and all divisions were fairly successful.

Div 1: 2 points (a) v Houldsworth
Div 7: 6 points (h) v Garrowhill
Div 17: 6 points (h) v Biggar
Div 21: 3 points (a) v Newarthill

The club didn’t win any league titles this year, however, managed to stay in all 4 divisions. Final league tables will appear on this site as soon as they are available.

The teams that were successful on the final night are to follow, plus, our Lanarkshire league “dream team”. More information on this will follow soon.

Congratulations to George Colquhoun and Mary Close who won the Todd Trophy on Saturday 20th August. It was a fine day and both George and Mary played fantastically well. They defeated Sheila McWhinnie and Ryan Cherrie in the final, so congratulations to Sheila and Ryan for reaching the final.

This is a quick notice to let you all know that the Division 17 match with Biggar at home on Friday 26th August has been cancelled. I believe this is down to a lack of players able to play from Biggar Bowling Club.

Our Lanarkshire Top Ten team managed a victory against Coalburn on Sunday 21st August at their green and now play Raploch at Udston in the semi final on Sunday 28th August with a 2pm start. Best of luck to everyone involved and here’s hoping there is a large support to cheer the guys on!!!

Three of our juniors had great results on Thursday 19th August in the Lanarkshire (U18’s) juniors. Ryan Cherrie won his singles match against his opponent from Stonehouse. Even though Ryan went 9-0 down, he recovered to win 21-12. Congratulations Ryan!!! In the pairs, Gary Johnstone and David Gray managed to win resoundingly against their opponents from Raploch by a score of 19-9. Congratulations to David and Gary also.

Unfortunately on Wednesday 18th August, our Motherwell Wishaw & District Burgh Top Ten lost at home in the quarter final stages to a strong Houldsworth team. Congratulations though to all the guys who managed to get us to the quarter-finals!!!

Our Lanarkshire Top Ten team managed a victory (everyone managed to win!!!) against Blantyre on Sunday 14th August at our green and now play Coalburn in the quarter final on Sunday 21st August away with a 2pm start. Best of luck to everyone involved!

Our Burgh top ten team managed a victory on Wednesday 10th August and now play Houldsworth in the quarter final on Wednesday 17th August at home with a 6.15pm start. Best of luck to everyone involved!
