Appeal for New Members

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 by Kenny

Over the past week, the committee have been distributing letters to the local neighbourhood with the aim of attracting new members. The letter sent out reads as follows:

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you with the aim of attracting you and your family to the sport of lawn bowls and to your local bowling club, Motherwell Miners. Lawn bowls is one of the most enjoyable, sociable, and cheapest sports anyone can participate in. The beauty of bowls is that it is very easy to learn and you can either just play for fun or participate in serious competition. We have members of all ages, ranging from 10 years old to 90 years old! Currently, we have around 120 gents, 50 ladies and 10 junior members, however, we would like to encourage more people in the local community to join in.

As well as the bowling side, we have a vibrant social side. Examples of our social events include karaoke, quiz evenings, race nights, bingo etc. We aim to hold a “social evening” once per month, where all members and friends are welcome.

Furthermore, we have our very own website, www.motherwellminers.co.uk. On this site you will find all the latest news and events in our club, as well as, our history, the basics of bowling and photos of events we have held throughout the recent years. If you have access to the internet, please take the chance to view our site!

Our fees for the outdoor season (April - October) are:

Gents/Ladies = £80
Retired Gents/Ladies = £69
Juniors (17 - 18) = £40
Juniors (16 - 17) = £25
Juniors (under 16) = FREE

If you are interested in joining and wish any further information or just want to try the game, please use the Contact facility on the website or contact our secretary Jim Houston.

We have organised an evening where those who wish to try the game before they join will be able to.  If you know of anyone interested in joining our bowling club, then please try to encourage them to get in contact with us for more information.  Hopefully, we shall halt the declining trend that has become apparent over the past few seasons.
