Motherwell Miners Welfare Bowling Club

Congratulations to Liz Anderson and Lesley McWhinnie who got off to a flying start on the first day (Wednesday) of the Scottish Womens Finals held at Northfield BC.  They defeated their opponents from Dunfermline by a score of 20-14 and will now meet Balgownie on Friday afternoon (3.30pm start).

Unfortunately our ladies lost their match on Friday afternoon against their opponents from Balgownie BC.  It was a very close match played in terrible conditions and after 14 ends the score was 14-14, however, Balgownie managed to sneak over the winning line!  A tremendous effort from Lesley and Liz and congratulations on reaching this stage!

The 4th match in the Lanarkshire Leagues took place on Tuesday 13th July. The results were as follows:

Division 2: Lesmahagow (away) - 0 points
Division 7: Lanark Thistle (away) - 2 points
Division 17: Coalburn (home) - 6 points
Division 19: Blantyre (home) - 2 points

A mixed rinks competition will take place on Saturday 17th July at 2pm for all ladies & gents members.  If you wish to participate, please append your name to the entry sheets on display in the locker room.  Note that an exact format has still to be decided however every player will receive a free drink and a buffet will be provided.  Following the completion of the tournament, a karoake will be held in the bowlers lounge for all players, family and friends. 

Our annual Club Pairs tournament was held on Saturday 10th July with 13 pairs taking part.  The final was contested between Jackie Barrie/Kenny McFarlane Jnr and David McEwan/Stuart Boyd, with Jackie & Kenny eventually being victorious by 3 shots.  A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all especially given the showery weather conditions.

Our LBA Top 6 team won their semi-final match against Bellshill & Mossend BC last night (Thursday 8th July) in an extremely tight contest.  Our singles (S.Boyd) lost by 2 shots, our pairs (J.Paton & D.Kelvin) drew and our triples (I. Allan, B.Hands, R.Walker) won by 3 shots, therefore, we won the match by a single shot!  A tremendous result and the final will be next Thursday evening (opponent still to be confirmed)!
